DBA Canyon Design, provide development and
design of websites and print materials, most
recently for the Washington DC St. Patrick’s
Day Parade Magazine. Provide technical
editing for clients such as Addison-Wesley
Professional and trade editing for publishers
such as BROADWAY BOOKS, a division of Bantam
Doubleday Dell Publishing Group (nonfiction
editing); HENRY HOLT & COMPANY, HARPER AUDIO
(book abridgments); nonprofit web clients.

Provided oversight and management of
180-bed conference/retreat facility in
Gualala, CA. Responsible for program
development, hospitality services, operational
budget ($300,000), compliance with all federal
and local regulatory agencies, marketing,
operations, maintenance and human resources.
Facility comprises 2 lodges, 14 cabins, a full
institutional kitchen, and dining hall.
Facility used year-round by primarily adult
retreat groups, as well as specialized music
and dance programs. Position required
tremendous sensitivity to diverse cultures and
program goals. (2003-2007)

PUBLICATIONS MANAGER
SpectraSwitch, Santa
Rosa, CA
Developed and produced marketing collateral
materials, print and online, including
technical manuals, datasheets, advertising,
feature articles, company presentations,
product brochures, news releases, including
message, copy, and illustrations. Wrote
feature articles for trade publications. Worked with Marketing team to
develop unified corporate marketing message
and identity. Worked with outside PR firm to
target speaking and publication opportunities
for key company figures and created
presentations for same. Assisted Marketing in planning and implementation of
trade show exhibits. Edited and compiled
patents. Created instructional animations for
Manufacturing training. Redesigned and
executed corporate website (www.spectraswitch.com).
Designed and managed corporate intranet,
working in conjunction with Document Control
and Engineering. Designed and created print advertising
as well as all print used in manufacturing process:
labels, product and equipment silkscreens,
shipping materials. Reported to CEO. (2000-2001)

Book project management for U.S. Developer Group
titles. Responsibilities included scheduling;
developmental, substantive, line, and copy
editing in
accordance with highly stringent editorial and
software documentation standards. Work
very closely with authors as well as oversaw all
other phases of production by other departments.
Duties included competitor and market analyses.

MANAGING EDITOR, OPTICAL ENGINEERING PRESS
SPIE--The International Society for Optical
Engineering, Bellingham, WA
Responsible for the timely publication of all
press monographs, tutorial texts, and special
products, as well as continuation of duties of
senior book editor. Coordinated reviews and
revisions, assigned editors as appropriate.
Initiated transition to desktop publishing
environment. Edited, designed, and formatted
books online, using WordPerfect for Windows and
Microsoft Word for Windows. Streamlined
editorial and production procedures. Established
publishing schedule and outsourced projects as
needed. Worked closely with graphics staff to
design book covers for a more contemporary look.
Designed interface for InCite, SPIE's electronic
publications index (www.spie.org), and negotiated contracts with
other organizations for electronic dissemination
of SPIE citations [Harvard Astrophysical Data
Services, Engineering Information (Compendex),
IEE (Inspec)]. Developed power-user computer
skills and acted in a user training and support
function to both the department and the
organization and as part of the team making
technology decisions. Created SPIE document

SPIE--The International Society for Optical

Acquisition, development, editing, and promotion
of applied optoelectronics and optical
engineering monographs and tutorial texts for
Optical Engineering Press imprint. Developed
manuscript review and translation procedures.
Coordinated production and printing. Indexing
and production of annual Subject/Author Index.
Provided editorial training and support to
Proceedings staff; final sign-off on Proceedings
production. Special product development. (1989–1995) MANAGING

Walker Publishing, New York, NY
Scheduling and production of 200 trade fiction and
nonfiction titles annually: adult, juvenile,
and educational. Final approval on all
editing, design, and production. Created and
implemented house editorial style. Sign-off
on print runs and prices. Hired and
established budgets for all editorial and art
personnel. Supervised in-house editorial
department and staff of freelance editors.
Wrote and edited catalog and jacket copy.
Served as liaison between editorial, art, and
production staff. Developed and line-edited
select titles. Answered directly to
president/publisher.
